Kid (& Mom) Approved!

Products, Recipes & Navigating Restaurants

Below you will find various products that work great for our family to avoid any issues with the milk and pea allergy.  My hope is that these recommendations will help save you time shopping. I also added my favorite recipes & dinner ideas.  For each recommendation, I included the protein (P), carbs (C), added sugar (AS), and fat (F) per each serving.

Garofalo Italian Pasta

You can't go wrong with this 3-Pack of organic pasta (three different shapes)!  While I would obviously prefer the protein-packed Banza pasta, Banza includes pea protein in the ingredients.  My son also doesn't prefer the various types of veggie-based pastas I've tried to serve him.  The bright colors do not offset the odd textures!

Costco Finds - Snacks

Veggie Straws

Careful - our son is OBSESSED and needs these on the side of EVERY meal.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Veggie straws have yellow pea flower in the ingredients list. Our son has never had an issue with these (even with the amount he eats), likely because these do not include pea protein.

A Winning Breakfast

Veggies Made Great - Muffins

From frozen to 35 seconds in the microwave and ready to serve! I don't mind when my son doesn't finish the entire thing and will definitely steal the last bite!  These come in various flavors and can be found at Target, Costco, and various grocery stores. Double Chocolate was an obvious winner, Cranberry Orange is hit or miss with our son, and I look forward to trying the others: Blueberry Oat, Apple Cinnamon, and Banana Chocolate Chip.

Veggies Made Great - Frittatas and Cakes

Beyond just muffins, check out the Quinoa Veggie Cakes, Harvest Root Veggie Cakes, Superfood Veggie Cakes, Butternut Squash Veggie Cakes, and Roasted Cauliflower Frittata.  Not breakfast necessarily, but their bakes are also worth checking out: Roasted Vegetable Bake, Butternut Squash Bake, Zucchini Bake, and Spinach Bake. Check back on their website to see if any additional flavors are added, items not listed here likely contain milk or cheese.

Van's Gluten Free Frozen Waffles

These frozen waffles are a hit. My son will eat the Original flavor, but that one likely needs to be jazzed up with syrup or jam. The blueberry waffles are awesome.  I dunk these into our toaster twice for about 2.5 minutes each, then serve!

Smoothies

I made the mistake of trying to share a Daily Harvest shake with my son... the flavors were way too complex for him! He does love a little bit of frozen fruit and oat milk blended together. We also throw 1/2 scoop of Vital Proteins into the mix.

Applegate Sausages

Chicken & Maple Breakfast sausage (in links or patties) go over well for mom & the kids :) The Chicken and apple have not been a hit...

Snack Snack Snack Snack

Made Good Granola Bars

We obviously try to avoid the granola balls, but the granola bars are a favorite. These are also safe to send to school because they are nut free. Our approved flavors include: Chocolate Chip, Mixed Berry, & Apple Cinnamon.

Snack Mates - Meat Sticks

I have found bulk packages of these that deliver same-day from Amazon (also from the grocery store and Thrive Market). Our son prefers the Chicken & Maple flavor. Keep an eye on how each flavor is packaged (eg Turkey Cranberry comes in a bag of bit-sized jerky vs a stick).  Turkey sticks are sometimes a win, but I always have Chicken & Maple on hand. Chomps are similar, but the casing is tougher than Snack Mates.

Tate's Cookies

Chocolate Chip is obviously our flavor of choice.  You can find these in individual green bags at the grocery store, or in bulk at Costco. Our son has eaten the Oatmeal Raisin flavor without an issue, but they seem to be greasier/softer than the other cookies, which concerns me a little.

Muffins

We will make homemade muffins with milk!
